The BR7C from Metral is a superbly constructed high precision machine exploiting many of the design features recognized as essential in good bevelling equipment. Such features include:
- an oil slide track system where the cast iron pads slide on special antifriction hardened rails which are automatically lubricated by a centralized lubrication system. There are no bearings in the central conveyor system.
- vertically moveable rear conveyor - a feature where the entire rear conveyor beam can be adjusted automatically up and down to accomodate small pieces down to 1 5/8”x1 5/8” (40mmx40mm).
Six high precision spindle motors (four diamond wheels and two felt wheels) are mounted on a cast iron stress-relieved bed which goes from 3-45° for bevel angle, while one edging spindle is provided for cleaning up the edge of the glass. The wheel bed also has lateral movement for uniform advance/retraction of all wheels simultaneously. Grinding compartment, water tank and cerium oxide tank are all in stainless steel.
Of special note also is the fully computerized control system which checks input parameters by the operator and warns of improper input data or system failures (lubrication, cerium oxide feed, etc.). The control system also calculates angle required for a given remaining edge (or vice versa) and governs all facets of the machine function.
